An already strong entry list for this year’s two-day Rally New Zealand has been bolstered with confirmation that two-time New Zealand rally champion Hayden Paddon has entered the event with his new Subaru STI rally car.
In his 41st year of competition, Palmerston North’s Brian Green has submitted the first entry for Rally New Zealand, 2011 which runs from 7 to 8 May based from Hampton Downs midway between Auckland and Hamilton.
After a thrilling final day of Jordan Rally, Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia claimed victory by the slimmest two-tenths of a second ahead of Jari-Matti Latvala and Miikka Anttila. Third position was taken by reigning FIA World Rally Champions Sébastien Loeb and Daniel Elena.
The action on Jordan Rally, round four of the FIA World Rally Championship, finally got underway today following the late arrival of the teams’ equipment into the country. And, at the end of the first day of competition, four drivers are in the frame for victory. Sébastien Ogier has claimed the overnight lead with team-mate Sébastien Loeb second. Jari-Matti Latvala holds third, just seconds ahead of Petter Solberg.
This year Rally New Zealand’s top level rallying action is complemented by an exhilarating ‘sideshow’ called ‘High Octane on Hampton’.
New Zealanders Hayden Paddon and John Kennard have won the production car category at Rally Portugal – a perfect outcome for their new Subaru-based international campaign. And to top it off the Kiwis delivered the largest winning margin – 7 minutes, 39.3 seconds – in the history of the feeder series to the World Rally Championship.
