Mikko Hirvonen and co-driver Jarmo Lehtinen, in a Ford Focus RS WRC, have won the weekend’s three-day Rally of Poland, the eighth round of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship and now takes the lead in the drivers’ point standings.
New Zealand rally driver Mark Tapper, who is competing in selected events of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship as one of the five inaugural Pirelli Star Drivers, has suffered a fracture to his right arm, but expects to be fit enough to compete in the next event on his schedule, Rally Finland, starting on 30 July.
The world governing body for motorsport, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile, has confirmed that Rally New Zealand has a slot on the 2010 FIA World Rally Championship calendar for 7 to 9 May.
The full 2010 WRC calendar was ratified at the June meeting of the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council, and this saw the early May date confirmed for New Zealand, says Rally New Zealand chairman Chris Carr.
This weekend’s eighth round of the 2010 FIA World Rally Championship returns to Poland 36 years on from the last time the series carved through its roads.
Regulations have been published and entries are now open for the 4th running of the Possum Bourne Memorial rally. The rally is to run this year on Saturday 22nd of August as a one day clubman’s event. The Pukekohe Car Club is running the event in partnership with Rally New Zealand continuing their successful partnership of the past two years.
