Following the one-day Metalman Possum Bourne Memorial Rally, Geraldine’s Hayden Paddon and Whangarei’s Ben Jagger have stretched their leads in the two Rally New Zealand Rising Stars Awards.
Chris West of Christchurch has won today's Metalman Possum Bourne Memorial Rally in the Waikato. The 4th running of the Pukekohe Car Club event organised as a tribute to the late Possum Bourne was held in sunny conditions with 76 cars led by current New Zealand Rally Champion Hayden Paddon leaving the Hamilton Workingmens Club at 7am to commence the 200km of special stages.
This weekend’s Metalman Possum Bourne Memorial Rally offers points’ scoring opportunities for the competitors entered in two components of the Rally New Zealand Rising Stars driver development programme.
Young rally drivers from around New Zealand can start getting their applications ready for the 2010 Rising Stars Scholarship programme run by Rally New Zealand.
The driver development programme – which includes the entry level Scholarship and two tiers for more experienced drivers, the Development Award and the International Award – ran for the first time in 2009 and has proved to be a great success in terms of the learning opportunities afforded to the young drivers involved, says Chris Carr, chairman of Rally New Zealand.
