New Zealand rally team pairing of Mark Tapper and Jeff Judd return to competition for this weekend’s final round of the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) when they start the three-day Rally Great Britain, which is also the sixth and final event in the inaugural Pirelli Star Driver programme.

Winner of the inaugural Rising Stars Scholarship, Nelsonian Ben Hunt, is encouraging all young and aspiring drivers who want to receive the opportunity of a lifetime to apply for the 2010 Rally New Zealand Rising Stars Scholarship, for which entries close on November 2.

Engine woes sideline Tapper in Spanish WRC round

Kiwi rally driver Mark Tapper’s hopes for a successful run in the all-tarmac Rally de España round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) were dashed when the engine in his Mitsubishi exploded on a touring stage.

Rally New Zealand to use Hampton Downs

When the World Rally Championship contenders head for Rally New Zealand in May next year, they’ll get to sample New Zealand’s newest motorsport complex, Hampton Downs, as part of the weekend’s competitive action.

Saturday 8 May will see the Rally New Zealand field utilise the Hampton Downs circuit and facilities for an exciting day of up-close rally action for fans, says Rally New Zealand’s clerk of course Willard Martin.

Malley and Marston selected as Rising Stars wildcards

Aucklander Patrick Malley and Christchurch’s Josh Marston have been selected as the wildcard entries for Rally New Zealand’s two Rising Stars awards being decided at a special shootout weekend in November.

The International Award will provide the winner, who has already competed in a Group N-spec car in the New Zealand Rally Championship, with professional mentoring and cash to the value of $50,000 to compete in a major international rally in 2010. Five young drivers registered for the award earlier this season and after completing all their nominated events, Hayden Paddon, from Geraldine, and Kieran Hall, from Nelson, went through to the shootout based on points earned.
