Repco Rally New Zealand at home at Mystery Creek Events Centre

This coming weekend’s Repco Rally New Zealand provides many opportunities to see the world’s best rally drivers on their quest for glory in and around roads of the Waikato, Waitomo, Otorohanga and Franklin districts, but it’s Hamilton’s Mystery Creek Events Centre which provides the World Rally Championship event a home. While the drivers are busy completing their reconnaissance of the rally stages on Wednesday 27 August in what are essentially road cars, their teams will be making the final adjustments to the rally cars ready for Thursday morning’s shakedown, or testing sessions. It’s free to spectators to come into Mystery Creek Events Centre on Wednesday and already many fans are enjoying the opportunity to stroll around the service park to watch the crews in action. Children under 15 years of age can come to Mystery Creek Events Centre or go into any prime spectator area free of charge for all days of the event where passes are required. On Thursday 28 August, a $10 pass allows adults to enjoy seeing the WRC crews undertake shakedown at Mystery Creek Events Centre, while the ceremonial start in Hood Street, Hamilton is free for everyone. The official Repco Rally New Zealand welcome starts with the chance to meet the drivers for autographs between 4pm and 6pm, with the first car going over the start ramp at 6:30pm. Competitors and their cars come through the ceremonial start in reverse running order, meaning the top WRC drivers will be the last to start at approximately 7:30pm. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday – the three days of competitive rallying – fans can enjoy a whole range of entertainment, activities and rally action at Mystery Creek Events Centre. The Mystery Creek super special stage – 3.14 km of up-close, mud-slinging rally action with free grandstands, live commentary and big screens – starts at 5pm on Friday, 12:30pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday. Twice each day the rally cars return to their team’s service area at Mystery Creek Events Centre to repair any damage and ensure the cars remain in peak condition to continue the rally.  Entertainment at Mystery Creek Events Centre on each of the three days includes the Super Motard super showdown – a cross between motocross and road racing on specially-built motard motorbikes, tractor pull competitions, and the Repco Rally chick shows which feature the latest rally merchandise and fantastic prize giveaways to those in the audience. From 6pm on Friday and Saturday, the WRC drivers visit the entertainment stage for their end of day press conference and fans can hear first-hand how the world’s best rally drivers are enjoying Repco Rally New Zealand. The big screens show live rally action from all the event’s stages direct from the ‘eye-in-the-sky’ helicopter, ensuring fans won’t miss a moment of WRC action, accompanied by expert live commentary.  Mystery Creek Events Centre also features a special Repco store where fans can purchase WRC and Repco Rally New Zealand merchandise and many other rally-related products. Other activities for fans include slot car competitions and a rally simulator challenge. Disabled access within Mystery Creek Events Centre has also been catered for. Further information is available by telephoning Repco Rally New Zealand headquarters on 07 834 0001 or emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Event passes, programmes (only $5.00) and the official rally map are all available from spectator points and Mystery Creek Events Centre. Passes for spectators over 15 years of age for all the action, entertainment and activities at Mystery Creek Events Centre are $20 for Friday and Saturday and $15 on Sunday. A gold pass ($95) offers the best value ticket to the whole event, and includes access to Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday to Mystery Creek Events Centre and all rural spectator viewing points throughout the rally. Full details of the entertainment and rally schedules can be found on www.rallynz.org.nz.
